Newark Gallery Launches Fellowship For Women Artists Of Color

Newark-based Gallery Aferro has launched a new fellowship for women artists of color.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark-based Gallery Aferro has launched a new fellowship for women artists of color, with an open call for future artists to be announced later this spring.

According to a news release from the gallery, the John and Lynn Kearney Fellowship for Equity will support “gender-based, racial and economic justice.” The new fellowship, open to women artists of color of any age, will cover all workspace studio costs of six months for two artists annually, along with a restriction-free stipend and bespoke solo programming opportunities within the context of Gallery Aferro and Newark.

Artist Bisa Washington will be the inaugural resident for 2019, with an open call for successive residents during 2019 and beyond to be announced later this spring, the gallery stated.
