ESSEX COUNTY, NJ -- Police are seeking the public’s help locating Nevaeh Blaine, 8, of Newark, who went missing Sunday morning, authorities say.

Officers responded to the area of Maybaum and Tremont avenues in Newark around 9:45 a.m. after receiving a call about a missing child.

"Nevaeh was last seen walking to a nearby grocery store after leaving a neighborhood playground," Newark police stated.

Police are actively searching for Nevaeh and are seeking the public’s assistance in quickly locating and returning the child to her family. An investigation is active and ongoing, authorities said.
