Newark Gunman Who Shot Man's Back In Broad Daylight Found Guilty Of Murder

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark man has been found guilty of murder after shooting a man in the back in broad daylight, prosecutors say.

On Thursday, Wadi Brown, 34, was found guilty of several charges, including first-degree murder, following roughly three hours of jury deliberations.

The verdict stems from a shooting on the afternoon of May 10. Police were called near the area of Bergen Street and Harding Terrace in Newark on reports of gunfire.

That day, Brown met with the victim, Keion Alston, 20, also from Newark. Witnesses said the pair got into an argument before Brown ended up firing six shots into Alston's back.

Brown was found guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

“While nothing can bring Keion Alston back, we hope this verdict provides his family with a measure of closure and justice,” said Assistant Prosecutor Meredith Mona.

Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 17. He faces 30 years to life in prison.
