Newark To Hold 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

The city will host its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Tuesday at the Newark Museum of Art.

Mayor Ras Baraka recently announced that the City of Newark will host its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at the Newark Museum of Art, located at 49 Washington Street, on Tuesday, October 11 from noon to 3 p.m. Newark’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration recognizes the community’s achievements and contributions to America’s story.

“Newark’s Latino community has long been a pillar of our city’s strength – achieving success in business, health, education, statesmanship, and the arts,” said Mayor Baraka. “These achievements deserve celebration to inspire generations of the future. We are privileged to salute our many honorees. Separately and together, they define Newark’s excellence.”

At the event, five Latino Newark students will each receive a scholarship.

“We are honored to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month where we will pay tribute to Latinos who have positively influenced our city,” said Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement Jacqueline Quiles. “We want to also congratulate the student scholarship winners who will be joining us. They have distinguished themselves through their studies and have a bright future ahead. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month Mi Gente!”

The event will include an arts exhibition and a performance by the Saborea Dance Group.
