Newark To Hold First-Ever Community Budget Hearing

Mayor Ras Baraka and City C.O.O. and Interim Deputy Mayor Natasha Rogers announced that the City of Newark will hold a Community Budget Meeting to give residents the opportunity to review the municipal budget, ask questions and express their opinions. The community meeting will take place in advance of the budget’s review by the Municipal Council. Residents will hear how the budget was prepared, what it contains, what services have been increased, what new services will be provided and what impact it will have on taxes.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at Willing Heart Community Center, 555 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. There will be a presentation on the budget and opportunities for questions and answers.

“It is important for Newark residents to understand how we plan their municipal budget, what the budget contains and what its impact will be on the services received by their families and neighborhoods,” Mayor Baraka said. “In an empowered and educated city, Newarkers must have the opportunity to hear how we spend their tax dollars and how we set priorities. This is the place to ask questions and get answers. I urge residents to join us at this meeting. Your voice will be heard.”
