Newark Man, 27, Dies After Shooting On Maple Avenue: Police

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A 27-year-old man died after being shot in Newark on Sunday, authorities said.

Haneef Sanders, 27, of Newark, was shot near 98 Maple Avenue, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Emergency responders transported Sanders to Beth Israel Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:16 p.m., authorities said.

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday, police said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is conducting an investigation. Anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
