Newark Man, 67, Fatally Shot On New Year’s Eve: Authorities
Newark police found the victim outside with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said.
NEWARK, NJ — A fatal shooting claimed the life of a 67-year-old Newark resident on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.
Newark police responded to the 100-block of Malvern Street at 7:01 a.m. on Sunday after getting a report about a shooting, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officers found Jose F. Gaona, 67, of Newark, outside the building with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 a.m.

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday, authorities said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting, authorities said.

REWARD OFFERED
The Essex County Sheriff’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the fatal shooting of Gaona.
Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
