NEWARK, NJ -- UPDATE: Jene Johnson, 80, of Newark, who was reported missing on April 18, has been located and is unharmed, authorities announced Wednesday. Our original article follows below.

Newark police are asking for the public's help finding a missing, 80-year-old man, authorities announced Wednesday evening.

Jene Johnson, 80, of Newark, was last seen at 10 a.m. on Monday on the 100-block of Stuyvesant Avenue, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

"While detectives are actively searching for Mr. Johnson, we seek the public’s help in quickly locating him," authorities said.

Johnson, who is diagnosed with dementia, is 6 feet 4 inches and 180 pounds, with a dark skin complexion and balding gray hair. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black or brown shoes.

Johnson may have been traveling to the Bronx, authorities said.

Authorities said anyone with information about Johnson's whereabouts can call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be made using the Police Division’s website or through its smartphone app.
