Newark Man Allegedly Beat Ex-Roommate With Pipe

NEWARK, NJ — Newark authorities are searching for a local man who allegedly beat his former roommate with a pipe during an argument earlier this week.

Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of Aquil Sykes, 33, of Newark, who is wanted in connection with a domestic-related aggravated assault that occurred Sunday, the Newark Department of Public Safety said.

Police said that Sykes and the victim – his former roommate - “had a verbal confrontation.” Sykes then allegedly beat the victim on the head and body with a pipe and fled the scene, authorities stated.

Detectives from the NPD’s Special Victims Section secured a warrant for Sykes’ arrest on charges of aggravated assault, the unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose.

“While police are actively searching for Sykes, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from our streets,” the Newark Department of Public Safety stated.
