Newark Man Allegedly Murdered East Orange Deli Worker

Police arrested a Newark man who allegedly stabbed a deli worker from East Orange to death.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police have arrested a Newark man who allegedly stabbed a deli worker from East Orange to death last week, authorities announced Tuesday.

Roberto Ubiera, 55, of Newark, did odd jobs at Park Deli & Grocery on North Park Street in East Orange. He’s accused of fatally stabbing Tarlok Singh, 55, of East Orange, a worker at the deli, around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, authorities said.

Singh was pronounced dead at the deli that day, according to a joint statement from Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi.

Ubiera has been charged with murder. A detention hearing for Ubiera is scheduled for Aug. 23, prosecutors said. No additional information was immediately available.
