Newark Man Charged with Killing 21-Year-Old in City's West Ward
Gary Banks, 22, arrested four weeks after shooting

Newark police captured a 22-year-old city man Friday on Bergen Street and charged him with the murder of , according to Katherine Carter, a spokeswoman with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities say Gary Banks allegedly is the at the corner of South 18th Street and 14th Avenue in the city's West Ward. The shooting left Harris dead and three others injured.
The three men were transported to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their names were not released, but Essex County Chief of Detectives Anthony Ambrose said the three men range in age from 19 to 22. He said two are from Newark and one is from West Orange.

That shooting occurred during a week of ongoing gun violence in the city that left three people dead and more than a dozen wounded in four separate attacks.
Little details about the motive behind Harris' killing were released, though, Newark Mayor Cory Booker has said some of those shootings are linked to a small group of drug dealers who are targeting other drug dealers. The mayor, though, stopped short of calling the incidents a drug or turf war.

Banks is charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses. He is in Essex County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
