Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident that took place on Memorial Day.

Newark, NJ – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident that took place on Memorial Day.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Samuel Smith Jr., 60, of Newark, was found dead on May 30 in the vicinity of Hickory Drive and Wyoming Avenue in Maplewood.
Smith sustained fatal injuries when he was struck by a hit and run driver, authorities stated on Monday.

He was living alone in Newark and notification of next of kin did not occur until Friday, prosecutors said.
An investigation is active and ongoing, prosecutors added.
