Newark Man Killed Young Girl With Car In Hit-And-Run: Prosecutors
The suspect is also accused of "trafficking in stolen vehicles," authorities said. He was arrested and charged with several crimes.
NEWARK, NJ — Police arrested a Newark man who is accused of killing a young girl and injuring two of her family members during a hit-and-run crash earlier this year, authorities said.
The fatal crash took place in January, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety:
“On January 31, police responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision at the intersection of 6th Avenue and North 9th Street. The 5-year-old girl was pronounced dead at approximately 6:30 p.m., and her father and 2-year-old sister, all from Newark, were treated at University Hospital.”
On Sunday, Essex County prosecutors announced that an arrest has been made in the case.

Suhrell S. Proctor, 23, of Newark, has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death, Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, and three counts of Endangering an Injured Victim.
Proctor has also been accused of stealing two “high-end vehicles” and “trafficking in stolen vehicles,” prosecutors added. He faces three theft-related charges, two counts of burglary and one count of fencing.
