Newark Man On Scooter Killed In Hit-And-Run: Prosecutors
A car hit a man on a motorized scooter in Newark. The driver tried to flee the scene on foot, authorities alleged.
NEWARK, NJ — A car hit and killed a man riding a scooter in Newark earlier this week, authorities announced Wednesday.
Mohammed Sani Razaku, 25, of Newark, was driving a motorized scooter on McCarter Highway between Market Street and Raymond Boulevard at 12:04 a.m. on Monday, when he was hit by a Volkswagen GTI, authorities said.
Razaku was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:41 a.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department.

The driver of the Volkswagen and his passenger sustained eye injuries caused by damage to the vehicle, which included a broken windshield, authorities said.
The driver of the Volkswagen, who was not named in an initial statement, attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended by Newark police officers. He was issued multiple summons for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, prosecutors said.

A criminal crash investigation is ongoing, prosecutors said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the incident.
