Newark Man Sexually Abused 3 Children, Sentenced To Prison

The older children decided to tell authorities about the abuse after learning that a younger victim was also being abused, prosecutors said.

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark resident will serve two life terms in prison after he sexually abused three children, prosecutors recently announced.

The 42-year-old man – whose name is being withheld to protect the privacy of the victims – was sentenced to two consecutive life terms plus 50 years, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced last week.

He was found guilty on all counts of a 27-count indictment in December 2022, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of three children. Several of the counts were subject to the Jessica Lunsford Act, which allows for a sentence of 25 years to life for persons convicted of aggravated sexual assaults of victims younger than 13, authorities said.

Prosecutors released the following details about the allegations against the Newark resident:

“The charges arose out of a pattern of sexual abuse of the children, who ranged from 7 to 13-years-old during the years of abuse. When the older two victims finally disclosed what the defendant had been doing to them, they explained that, for years, they had been too afraid of the defendant to speak up but decided to do so when they learned of the abuse of the youngest victim.”

The eldest victim and her mother spoke in court about the lasting impact of the sexual abuse, which the judge acknowledged while delivering the sentence.
