Newark Man Shot 60-Year-Old Victim In Back, Found Guilty Of Murder

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark resident who killed a man by shooting him in the back has been found guilty of murder, authorities recently announced.

Antwine King, 35, of Newark, was convicted on several charges in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in the city three years ago, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Here’s what happened, prosecutors said:

“On Oct. 22, 2023, King engaged in a verbal argument with the victim, Vincent Anderson, 60, of Newark, at the intersection of Clinton Place and Renner Avenue in Newark. During the confrontation, King shot Anderson once in the back, killing him, before fleeing the scene on foot.”

Agents with the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended King six days later in Laredo, Texas, authorities said.

After three days of deliberations, a jury found King guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose on Oct. 20.

King is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 5, 2027. He faces a potential sentence of 30 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
