Newark Man Started Fire At Local Seafood Grill: Police

Authorities charged a Newark man with aggravated arson after he allegedly started a fire at Tasty's Fish & Seafood Grill.

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities charged a Newark man with aggravated arson after he allegedly started a fire at an Essex County seafood grill on Tuesday, police say.

Newark police said that officers responded to Tasty’s Fish & Seafood Grill at 846 North 6th Street around 9 p.m. after receiving a call about a fire. Apparently, the fire began when someone ignited a container with flammable liquid and tossed it onto the stove, where it burst into flames, authorities said.

Newark detectives developed evidence that identified Jashon King, 39, of Newark, as a suspect in the alleged arson case and arrested him at the scene, authorities said.

Police charged King with three counts of aggravated arson and criminal mischief.

The Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit and the Newark Police Division are coordinating an ongoing investigation into the incident, authorities said.
