Newark Man Threatens Mom With Bat; Brother Tries To Shoot Him: PD
A Newark man allegedly threatened his mother with a metal baseball bat. Then his brother tried to shoot him, police said.
NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for a man accused of firing a gun at his brother earlier this week after the latter threatened to kill his mother with a baseball bat, authorities said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the “family altercation” took place shortly after midnight on Sunday, March 24 at a home on South 19th Street.
The fight allegedly started when Keson Miles made “multiple threats” against his mother. Keson’s brother, Dashon Miles, then began to argue with his sibling. Their mother retreated to a bedroom, where she passed out. Another relative on the scene called for an ambulance, police stated.

The verbal argument between the brothers soon turned physical, and Dashon retreated from the house. When Keson went out to the third-floor balcony of the home to continue the argument, Dashon fired one shot into the balcony floor with a 9 mm handgun, authorities said.
Despite being shot at, Keson continued to threaten his mother and tried to break down the door in the house with a metal baseball bat, police said.

A police ShotSpotter recorder in the area picked up the gunshot. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a bullet casing and a live round on the sidewalk beneath the third-floor balcony of the house. Police also found a bullet mark under the balcony floor, authorities said.
Keson Miles has been arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and assault with a weapon, a police spokesperson said.
Dashon Miles is still wanted by police as of Friday. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on aggravated assault and “a variety of weapons charges,” according to the Newark Department of Public Safety (see photo below).
