Newark Mayor Pushes For $15 Hourly Wage At Newark Airport

Many Newark Airport workers make just $10.10 per hour, city officials say.

Newark, NJ – Workers at Newark Airport should earn $15 an hour.

That’s what Newark Mayor Ras Baraka had to say during a press conference on Wendesday, where he called for the Port Authority of NY/NJ to provide a living wage for its employees at the low end of the pay scale.

Many Newark Airport workers make just $10.10 per hour while living in one of the most expensive states in the nation, city administrators stated in a news release.

The proposed wage increase is part of a larger restructuring of the city’s agreement with the Port Authority that Baraka plans to push.

The restructuring includes plans to create a City of Newark Office of Port Authority Oversight, which would examine all capital projects affecting the city.
