“I am proud of the Project Ready team, all who made opening the center possible, and most of all, the community who keeps us true to our mission to highlight, uplift, and restore the narratives of Black and Brown voices,” McCloud said.
Last weekend’s event included family-friendly activities, workshops and local vendors. Attendees received free backpacks that included books and school supplies, along with free ice cream and meal tickets. The event also featured a “Mad Science Workshop” for elementary and middle school aged children, face painting, and a reading hour. Food trucks and local vendors were on-site where attendees were able to support community businesses and learn more about Newark-based organizations.
