Newark resident Mario Domingues Cantante passed away on Oct. 31.

He was 71-years-old.

“Mario Domingues Cantante, 71, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ.

“He was born in Mira, Coimbra, Portugal and came to the US in March 1980 and resided in the Ironbound Section of Newark.

“Mario was the owner of Cascata Bar & Restaurant in Newark from 1999-2005. Previously he owned Gaivota Restaurant and Favo de Mel Food Market, all of the Ironbound.

“Beloved husband of Isilda De Figueiredo Marreco Cantante; devoted and loving father of Ana Duarte and her husband Carlos, cherished grandfather of Corey and Elle. Also survived by three sisters in Portugal and many nieces and nephews in Portugal and the U.S.”
