Newark Police Find 2 Dead Bodies Inside Vacant Building
Drug paraphernalia was found at the scene, Newark police said.
NEWARK, NJ — Police recovered the bodies of two people inside a vacant building in Newark on Sunday. Drug paraphernalia was found at the scene, authorities said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to the 200-block of New Street at 10:03 a.m. after getting a call about an unresponsive man inside an unoccupied building.
The officers found the man at the scene; he was pronounced dead at 10:39 a.m.

Police also found another man inside the building while responding to the first incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:43 a.m., authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation, a police spokesperson said Tuesday. No further information was immediately available.

RLS Media identified the location of the building as 271 New Street, the location of the historic Old Essex County Jail, which has been abandoned since 1971.
