Newark Police Investigate Infant’s Death; No Signs Of ‘Foul Play’

A nine-month-old child passed away in Newark, prompting a police investigation.

NEWARK, NJ — A nine-month-old child passed away in Newark on Wednesday, prompting a police investigation. There is no evidence suggesting any suspicious activity in the infant’s death, authorities said.

Newark police officers responded to a report of a sick or injured child on Riverview Court around 8:30 a.m. The officers found an “unresponsive” infant at the scene. EMS responders immediately transported the child to University Hospital, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. There were no signs of foul play or visible signs of trauma to the child’s body, authorities said.

“The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, although there is no evidence suggesting any suspicious activity,” Newark police stated Wednesday.
