Newark police recovered more than 100 stolen vehicle key fobs, including many taken from a used car dealership in Woodbridge.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police recovered more than 100 stolen vehicle key fobs, including many taken from a used car dealership in Woodbridge, after finding three people sleeping in a stolen car last week, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers came across two men and a male juvenile who were sleeping in a 2015 Audi on the 100-block of Parker Street on Jan. 19. All three are Newark residents.

The Audi was one of 12 vehicles recently reported stolen from Car Revolution in Woodbridge, police said.

Officers found the 15-year-old juvenile in possession of the key fob for the Audi. He also had a key fob for two other stolen vehicles, which were located at Mapes and Weequahic Avenues and on the 300-block of South 12th Street, police said.

The vehicle found on South 12th Street – a Dodge Ram pick-up truck – was searched with its owner’s consent. Inside, officers found 139 other key fobs stolen from Car Revolution, authorities said.

The juvenile and the other two suspects, Ahjhir K. Jones, 18, and Sharieff N. Copeland, 26, have been charged with receiving stolen property. An investigation continues, Newark police said Tuesday.

“I commend the 2nd Precinct officers who located the stolen vehicle that led to these three arrests and the recovery of hundreds of stolen key fobs,” Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said.
