Newark Police Rush Child To Hospital After Multiple Shooting

Newark's mayor is asking police to "work around the clock" to find whoever is responsible.

NEWARK, NJ — A late night shooting in Newark injured multiple people on Thursday, including a 4-year-old child, authorities said.

The shooting took place on Cabinet Street shortly after 11 p.m. An adult man and woman were also injured. All three victims were transported to University Hospital, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

“Another tragedy has hit our community by way of gun violence,” Mayor Ras Baraka said.

“In last night’s shooting, an innocent 4-year-old was hurt, and by the grace of God, is still with us because our Newark police officers rushed the child to the hospital and helped save his life,” Baraka said.

The mayor said he’s asking Newark police to “work around the clock” to find whoever is responsible.

“We will not rest until we have these shooters in custody,” Baraka said.

“In a city where we are fighting for police reform, we also need everyone to come together to end the violence that has plagued our community for so many years,” Baraka added. “We need a stronger push and we all have to do our part.”
