Newark Police Search For Armed Robbery Suspects

Newark police are searching for two people who allegedly committed a pair of armed robberies in the city, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for two people who allegedly committed a pair of armed robberies in the city, authorities announced Tuesday.

Both robberies took place on Nov. 11, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety. Police released the following details about the first incident:

“At approximately 6:45 a.m., a man walking southbound on McWhorter Street near Ferry Street was approached by a male who exited a red Hyundai Sonata and demanded his belongings at gunpoint. The suspect stole the victim’s backpack, containing his wallet, a bank card, cash and a cell phone before returning to the vehicle, which had been reported stolen.”

Minutes later, another adult male victim was approached by two men who exited a red Hyundai Sonata as he walked on New Jersey Railroad Avenue near Lafayette Street.

Here’s what happened, authorities said:

“The suspects pointed a gun at the victim and also stole his backpack containing his cell phone and other personal property. The suspects returned to the vehicle and the driver, a third suspect, fled westbound on Lafayette Street. The stolen vehicle was recovered by police on the 800-block of South 16th Street.”

Police said the first suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and tan pants. The second suspect has a heavy build with an extremely bowlegged stance and walk. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Police released surveillance photos of the suspects, which can be seen below.
