Newark Police Shoot Dog That Was Attacking Woman: Authorities

A pair of Newark police officers shot a dog that was attacking a woman on Hunterdon Street, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A pair of Newark police officers shot a dog that was attacking a woman on Hunterdon Street early Thursday morning, authorities said.

While patrolling the 200-block of Hunterdon Street around 3 a.m., the officers came across a dog attacking a woman. She ran toward the officers, who both fired their service weapons, striking the animal, the Newark Department of Public Safety stated.

Emergency responders transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment, authorities said.

The wounded dog has been transported to local animal control officials and is in their care, the NDPS stated.

Police are investigating the incident, authorities said. No additional information was immediately available.
