Newark Public Library Hosts Annual Philip Roth Lecture Series

Distinguished writer Salman Rushdie lectures on Roth and his work

On Thursday, September 27, the Newark Public Library (NPL) hosted its annual Philip Roth Lecture Series event featuring distinguished writer and Midnight’s Children author, Salman Rushdie. This was a special event as Rushdie was the last author that Roth handpicked to participate in the series prior to his passing earlier this year. Moving forward, the Philip Roth Lecture Committee will select all future authors. As a tribute, Rushdie lectured on the topic of Roth and his work.

The annual Philip Roth Lecture Series was launched to honor Roth and the planned donation of his personal library, comprising 3,500 volumes, to eventually be housed at NPL. This addition will transform NPL into a literary destination for Roth fans across the world. For more information on NPL and upcoming events, please visit npl.org.
