Newark Public Schools Nurse Wins March of Dimes Award

Montalvo named 'nurse of the year'

The March of Dimes New Jersey chapter has award Lillian Montalvo from the Newark Public Schools its 2013 Nurse of the Year Award in the Public Health Occupational Health Ambulatory Care category.

Through Nurse of the Year Awards, the March of Dimes recognizes nurses who demonstrate exceptional patient care, compassion, and service.  

Montalvo RN, MSN is currently a school nurse in the Newark Public School System, managing the care of 2,000 high school students, and also works as an LPN Nursing Educator at the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School. She has been a registered nurse since 1993. Her nursing experience is primarily in the Maternal-Child Health field. She has worked in Labor and Delivery at St. James Hospital, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Peters Hospital, and was an Obstetrical Case Manager and Director for a women’s health center.

“We could not do the work of the March of Dimes without the passion and commitment of our nurses.  This is our opportunity to show them how special they truly are,” said Addy Bonet, State Director of the New Jersey Chapter of the March of Dimes.

Nurse of the Year Awards are given annually in approximately 17 award categories.  More than 5,000 nurses were nominated nationwide, including 240 in this area. New Jersey award recipients were announced at a special awards gala held on December.
