Newark Rotary Supports Library’s Hispanic Archives Center
A June 13 event will launch the project

The Rotary Club of Newark is joining with other New Jersey entities and individuals to celebrate the Grand Opening of the re-imagined NJ Hispanic Research & Information Center.
Housed at the Newark Public Library’s main branch on Washington Street and over 25 years in the making, the NJHRIC combines the largest Latino archival collection in the state with the largest Spanish language book collection in New Jersey.
Supported by Latino legislators, contributors, and the City of Newark, the NJHRIC now moves into a newly renovated and accessible public space.

A Lens on Jersey’s Latino History, a public humanities initiative aligned with New Jersey’s 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, will help launch the project with an unveiling event on June 13, 2026. This program is expected to attract 250–300 attendees, including civic leaders, scholars, and community members. The event will feature Felipe Luciano, a nationally recognized political activist and media figure. This initiative will activate the Center through a series of public programs designed to connect scholarship, education, and community engagement with a goal of preserving Latino history through oral histories and archival contributions.
Please contact The Newark Public Library for additional information on supporting their initiatives. The Rotary Club of Newark meets for lunch on the second Wednesday of each month at Spanish Pavillion in Harrison.
