The playing field has been laid out for this year's Newark Board of Education election.

NEWARK, NJ — The playing field has been laid out for the 2024 Newark Board of Education election.
On Wednesday, administrators in the Newark Public School District held a ballot drawing for the school board election, which will take place on Tuesday, April 16 (watch the video below).
There are 10 candidates competing for four seats on the board (in alphabetical order): Kanileah Anderson, Che J.T. Colter, Muta El-Amin, Dawn Haynes, Latoya Jackson, Sheila Montague, Debra Salters, Vereliz Santana, Helena Vinhas and Jimmie White.

The NAACP-Newark branch will hold a candidate forum on Thursday, March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clubhouse Community Center, 205 Spruce Street.
