Newark School Of Global Studies Senior Accepted To Columbia University

Reanah Bultron has made history as the first Newark School of Global Studies student to be accepted to an Ivy League university.

NEWARK, N.J. – Reanah Bultron has made history as the first Newark School of Global Studies (NSGS) student to be accepted to an Ivy League university. Columbia University in New York City recently notified Bultron that she has been offered a place in the incoming freshman class this fall.

“This is such a huge accomplishment for my family,” said Bultron, who added that she will be the first in her family to attend an Ivy League university. She is a native Newarker, the second oldest of five children, and lives in the South Ward. Her mother is a nurse, and her stepfather works in a correctional facility.

Bultron will graduate from NSGS in June as part of the high school’s second graduating class. The school opened in 2020.

“We are incredibly proud of Reanah’s achievements and look forward to seeing her make an impact on the world. Her historic acceptance to Columbia University is a result of her hard work, determination, and the extraordinary opportunities provided by the Newark School of Global Studies,” said Superintendent León. “As the first student from NSGS to be accepted to an Ivy League university, Reanah exemplifies what is possible when our students are equipped with a global perspective and a commitment to excellence. I want to acknowledge the support of Reanah’s devoted family, as well as the work of Reanah’s teachers, counselors, and mentors.”

Council. “This milestone not only honors Reanah's hard work and vision but also underscores the exceptional efforts taking place at the Newark School of Global Studies. “Reanah Bultron’s acceptance to Columbia University is an extraordinary moment for her, her family, and the Newark School of Global Studies,” said Principal Nelson Ruiz. "Reanah embodies the spirit of determination, intellectual curiosity, and global awareness that we strive to instill in all of our students. Her success is a source of immense pride for our school community, and we are confident she will continue to achieve greatness at Columbia University and beyond."

Bultron is considering majors in political science and international relations with a minor in philosophy. She aspires to work in politics and law and is interested in becoming a civil rights attorney or international litigator.

Bultron has been active in extracurricular activities, particularly in her school’s Model United Nations Team, where she has won a first-place Best Delegate award in a 2023 competition and garnered the Best Essay award and the Award of Excellence in 2024 competitions. Bultron has also been a member of the NSGS Debate Team, Environmental Club, and Student Council. She has also served as a tutor in international relations and Arabic.

In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball, reading, and listening to music.
