Newark Sees 2 Fatal Shootings In 2 Days: Prosecutor

A pair of victims recently died in unrelated shootings in Newark. One was 36-years-old, the other 27, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A pair of victims recently died in unrelated shootings in Newark, authorities say.

On Sunday, Newark police responded to the 700-block of South 18th Street after getting a report about a shooting. After investigating the scene, the officers found Tony Madison, 36, of Newark, in a vehicle on the 400-block of Avon Avenue with fatal injuries.

Madison was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:23 p.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Another male victim was also shot, but sustained non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

On Monday, Newark police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and South 9th Street at 7:53 p.m.

Police found Antonio McCrimmon, 27, of Newark, in the street. He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m., authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating both shootings.
