Newark Shooting Kills 1, Wounds Another Victim: Authorities

A fatal shooting claimed the life of a 23-year-old man and injured another victim in Newark, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A fatal shooting claimed the life of a 23-year-old man and injured another victim in Newark last weekend, authorities said.

Police found Thomas J. Pickett, 23, of Newark, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds at 9:44 p.m. on Saturday on the 200-block of Renner Avenue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Pickett was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m.

Another victim was injured in the shooting and also transported to University Hospital, authorities said.

No arrests have been made as of Sunday, authorities stated.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
