Newark Children Explore STEM Concepts With Soda Rocket Launch

Soda + rockets = a fun day of STEM activities for Newark children at "Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day."

NEWARK, NJ — Soda + rockets = a fun day of STEM activities for Newark children.

On Thursday, more than 75 young learners – ages 4 to 16 – gathered at the Newark Public School's Central Office to participate in “Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day.” According to school administrators, the day was focused on the one of the most important subjects in modern education: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

The Newark Police Department closed down the Bank Street headquarters of Newark Public Schools so the projects could be done in the street. Throughout the event, the students “explored energy and space,” wrapping up the day of science and fun with a rocket launch involving projectiles that “exploded” when attached to a soda bottle, school administrators said.
