Newark Teacher Keeps Learning, Earns $5K Scholarship
Joya Clark, a teacher at Sojourn High School at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center in Newark, earned a $5,000 scholarship.

NEWARK, NJ — They say that learning never stops. That’s certainly the case for a Newark teacher who recently earned a $5,000 scholarship from the Bayer USA Foundation and the Thompson Family Foundation to earn their physics or chemistry endorsement through the nonprofit NJ Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).
Joya Clark, a teacher at Sojourn High School at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center in Newark, was one of several educators in the state to earn a $5,000 scholarship.
Teachers from all across New Jersey and from many different academic disciplines applied for the scholarships, which aim to combat a “dire teacher shortage in critical STEM areas,” according to the CTL.
