Newark Teen Dies After Hit-And-Run On GS Parkway In Irvington: Police

Police continue to search for the driver who crashed into a 16-year-old pedestrian on the Garden State Parkway in Essex County.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police continue to search for the driver who was behind the wheel in a fatal hit-and-run crash on the Garden State Parkway in Essex County last month, authorities announced Thursday.

A 16-year-old juvenile from Newark who was crossing the street at the time sustained fatal injuries in the crash, which took place on the Irvington portion of the highway on Oct. 9, according to the New Jersey State Police.

“Based on an investigation at the scene, detectives determined that at approximately 9:24 p.m., a 2004-2006 black Acura TL with an unknown New Jersey license plate was traveling northbound on Eastern Parkway in Irvington in the area of the 143C entrance ramp. A juvenile pedestrian crossed the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. Based on a witness account and surveillance footage, after the vehicle struck the juvenile, the vehicle continued north on the Garden State Parkway. The vehicle had front end, passenger side, and passenger sideview mirror damage.”
