Newark Teen Dies In Shooting; Police Investigation Launched

A 17-year-old Newark resident died in a shooting on 14th Avenue, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A 17-year-old Newark resident died in a shooting on 14th Avenue on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Nasir Clayton of Newark, was fatally shot around 12:52 p.m. on the 300-block of 14th Avenue. Emergency responders transported him to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:37 p.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the shooting, authorities said.
