Newark Will Hold Free Food Giveaway Event: See Latest Location

NEWARK, NJ — The City of Newark will hold a “drive-up and go” food distribution event for local residents at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Newark officials have been holding free giveaways of food for in-need residents at rotating locations across the city. The latest event will take place at Broome Street and Court Street.

According to a city advisory, 1,000 boxes of food will be available at the event. The packages will include fruit, vegetables and chicken.

Cars must enter at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Court Street. Walk-ups are welcome at Broome Street and Court Street. For more information, call 973-733-3274 or visit newarknj.gov.

STREET CLOSURES

The following streets will be closed during the below designated hours due to the City of Newark’s Drive Up and Go Food Distribution event:

Beginning from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Wednesday, October 23, 2024

• Court Street between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Prince Street
• Broome Street between Court Street and Mercer Street
• Howard Street between Court Street and Dandridge Street
• Lincoln Street between Mercer Street and Doby Place
• Mercer Court between Mercer Street and Court Street

Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and to plan alternate routes, Newark police said.
