Newark Woman Charged With Setting Fire To Building While Squatting Illegally

Authorities have charged a Newark woman with second-degree arson after she allegedly set fire to a mattress in an abandoned building on Bergen Street where she and her boyfriend were squatting.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Felicia White, 34, set the fire on July 8 after getting into an argument with her boyfriend.

Nobody was injured in the resulting blaze, but there was substantial damage to two rooms on the second floor of the building where the fire started.

The investigation is active an ongoing.
