Newark Woman Found With Fatal Stab Wounds, Police Probe Continues

No arrests have been made as of Thursday, Essex County prosecutors said.

NEWARK, NJ — Police are investigating a fatal stabbing that took place in Newark on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Newark police responded to the 200-block of Sunset Avenue at 1:41 p.m. after getting a report about an unresponsive woman inside a home. Officers found Annie D. Gooden, 66, of Newark, suffering from stab wounds.

Gooden was pronounced dead at the scene at 2 p.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal stabbing. No arrests have been made as of Thursday, authorities said.
