Woman Dies After Garbage Truck Hits Her In Newark: Prosecutors

The garbage truck was apparently emptying a dumpster at the time, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A garbage truck struck and killed a Newark woman on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office released a statement about the incident, which resulted in the death of Vitina Stern, 41:

“On August 2 at about 4:28 a.m., Newark police were notified of a woman [later identified as Vitina Stern] who was apparently struck by a garbage truck while lying on the ground at the 100-block of Clinton Avenue in Newark. The garbage truck was apparently emptying a dumpster. Stern was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:23 a.m.”

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the vehicular death. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday evening, authorities said.
