Newark's 16th Annual African-American Festival Today

Festival will feature live entertainment, carnival rides and plenty of grub

The 16th Annual African-American Festival in Newark's South Ward is this afternoon, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The massive street fest, which stretches Bergen Street from Lyons Avenue to Nye Avenue, will feature carnival rides, plenty of food to nosh on and live entertainment.

Bartlett Dairy is expected to announce a $25,000 donation to the South Ward community at 3 p.m. on Stage One. The money will benefit the Bergen Street Merchants Association and Jackie Robinson South Ward Little League and Pop-Warner Football.

Bartlett Dairy, which distributes dairy products and other perishable food items to retail stores throughout the northeast, announced plans to relocate from Jamaica, Queens in New York to South Ward Industrial Park. The move will reportedly create more than 400 jobs over the next five years.
