‘Night Of Hope’ Event In Newark For People With Autism, Families

The North Ward Center will hold "Night of Hope 2" on April 26.

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark nonprofit will hold a “Night of Hope” event for people with autism and their families on Wednesday, April 26.

The North Ward Center will host the event from 5 to 7 p.m. at 346 Mt. Prospect Avenue. According to a news release from organizers:

“Night of Hope 2 is a time to celebrate our differences and ignite a flame of change. [The event] will be a no judgment zone of learning and celebration. There will be music, food, information booths, quiet stations, and an ‘Everything Autism’ room to give parents constructive tools of engagement for their families. Our theme will focus on accessing quality health care for people with autism. All in attendance will be signing a ‘health care pledge’ which embodies the idea that healthcare for individuals with autism should be equitable, compassionate and promote autism friendly practices. A recent study reported that health care providers had limited knowledge, resources, and training regarding autism, and limited ability to manage the complex needs of someone with autism. This night will create a sea change of understanding, ideas, and compassion. We can do this if we believe … that HOPE is a verb!”
