NEWARK, NJ — Quiz time, New Jersey. What Garden State-born thespian has reportedly dropped the "f-bomb" on screen more than any other actor?
If you said Joe Pesci, you know your film history, according to a tongue-in-cheek study released this week.
To reach their conclusion, Crossword-Solver delved into almost 3,000 movie scripts, counting up the number of times each character said the “queen-mother of dirty words,” as once referenced in beloved holiday movie, “A Christmas Story.”

Pesci, who was born in Newark and raised in Belleville, landed at the top of the list. According to Crossword-Solver, the star of classic movies such as “Goodfellas” and “My Cousin Vinny” has said “f***” a whopping 272 times in his films. To be fair, the vast majority of those – 241 – came during just one movie, researchers said: the iconic 1995 gangster film, “Casino.”
Other actors who ranked high on the list included Al Pacino, who has uttered the word 197 times on screen, and Jonah Hill and Jason Mewes, who have each racked up 183.

CURSING UP A STORM IN NEW JERSEY
Pesci isn’t the only Newarker who likes to spice up their vocabulary with a good smattering of dirty words now and then, according to another recent study.
Wordtips recently analyzed tweets from across the nation in a quest to learn the most foul-mouthed U.S. cities. Researchers found that New Jersey’s largest city – which had a total of 50 tweets per 1,000 with a curse – was third on their list of the “Top 10 Cities That Swear The Most.”
Newark tied with two other U.S. cities on the list: El Paso, Texas and Albuquerque, New Mexico. The only cities that ranked higher were Stockton, California, which had 53 tweets with a swear per 1,000, and Atlanta, Georgia, which led the nation with 56.
The city that curses the least, according to the study? Minneapolis, Minnesota, which had a total of just 17 tweets per 1,000 with a swear, researchers said.
It’s also worth noting that Newark residents allegedly have much dirtier mouths than their close neighbors in New York City, which only saw 19 tweets per 1,000 with a curse word, researchers said.
Where does New Jersey stand as a whole? The state had 39 swears per 1,000 tweets – behind only Georgia, Maryland, New Mexico, Hawaii and Louisiana.
