The New Jersey Department of Education greenlighted the renewal of five charter schools in Newark, a report says.

NEWARK, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Education recently greenlighted the renewal of five charter schools in Newark and the expansion of two schools, a report says.

The state education commissioner has renewed Great Oaks Legacy, LEAD, Robert Treat Academy, North Star Academy, and TEAM Academy charter schools to operate for the next five years, Chalkbeat Newark reported.

Robert Treat Academy and North Star Academy received approval to increase enrollment by the 2030-2031 school year. The state blocked a 1,000-seat request from TEAM Academy, Chalkbeat reported.
