NJ Group Offers Free Citizenship Classes For Green Card Holders

The workshops will help New Jersey immigrants with Green Cards to prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam. Online classes are available.

NEW JERSEY — Need help studying for the U.S. citizenship exam? A series of free classes in January may give you the support you need.

Make the Road New Jersey is hosting free workshops to help Green Card holders to prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam, which includes 100 questions about civics, history and U.S. government.

The classes will last 10 weeks. There will be sessions in Passaic and Elizabeth. Online classes will also be available. Interested participants can register here.

Make the Road New Jersey will also provide free legal assistance to file citizenship applications.

  • Classes will be taught in hybrid, by the app "Zoom" with in person classes available at our community centers in Elizabeth and Passaic for 10 weeks.
  • The Elizabeth course starts on Jan. 27, 2025 (twice a week). These classes will be hybrid: in person on Mondays at our community center (42 Broad Street, Elizabeth, NJ) and every Monday and Thursday via Zoom from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • The Passaic course starts on Jan. 28, 2025 (twice a week). These classes will be in person every Tuesday at 184 Passaic Street, Passaic, NJ, and virtual every Thursday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • The virtual classes will begin on Jan. 29, 2025 (twice a week) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The classes will be held via Zoom every Wednesday and Thursday.
