NJ Man Guilty Of Fatal Stabbing, Search For Accomplice Continues

A New Jersey man and an unidentified accomplice killed a victim with a "machete-style" knife, Essex County prosecutors said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A Monmouth County resident was recently found guilty of murder after he fatally stabbed a man in Newark, authorities announced Friday.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a jury found Terrance Bailey, of Cliffwood, guilty of first-degree murder and weapons charges in connection with an assault that took place last year.

“The incident occurred on February 20, 2024 on the 200-block of Cathedral Court in Newark, when Bailey and an unidentified accomplice pursued Daniel Haas Jr., 28, while brandishing a firearm. They ultimately killed him with a machete-style knife.”

The investigation involved the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, along with investigators from the Newark Police Department, the Irvington Police Department and the New Jersey State Police Forensics Lab.

The jury returned its verdict on March 21 following a trial that lasted nearly two weeks.

Bailey faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison. Under the No Early Release Act, he must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
