NJ Man Spent 2 Months In County Jail Despite Release Order: Report

"There's no explanation why this guy stayed in jail," his attorney said. "It's a mystery."

NEWARK, NJ — A New Jersey man is accusing authorities of improperly holding him in a jail cell at the Essex County Correctional facility in Newark, a report says.

The man – a 58-year-old German national and landlord of a property on Treacy Avenue – had been charged with burglary and simple assault. The charges were eventually dropped, but he spent nearly two months in prison after a municipal judge ordered his release, unaware that anything was amiss. He has since filed a lawsuit against the county, its corrections department and prosecutor's office, NorthJersey.com reported.

“There’s no explanation why this guy stayed in jail,” his attorney said. “It’s a mystery.”
