NJ To Mexico: ‘First-Ever’ Nonstop Flights To Puebla Launch At Newark Airport
A budget airline is launching a new route between Newark and Puebla – a city in Mexico known for its architecture, industry and culture.
NEWARK, NJ — A milestone for international travel was announced at Newark Airport in New Jersey on Wednesday: the upcoming launch of a “first-ever” nonstop route between Newark and Puebla, Mexico.
Budget carrier line Volaris will be running nonstop flights from Newark to Puebla International Airport (PBC). The new service will begin on June 2 (see schedule below).
Puebla – which is located about 80 miles southeast of Mexico City – is one of the country’s most culturally and economically significant regions, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Known for its colonial architecture, Puebla has a historic city center designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in addition to landmarks such as Puebla Cathedral and the Biblioteca Palafoxiana. The region is also an industrial and educational hub, making it an increasingly attractive destination for both tourism and business travel, the Port Authority said.

“The new service will operate four days a week beginning Tuesday, June 2. Service to Newark Airport (EWR) will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with a 10:50 p.m. departure from Puebla, Mexico for a 5:29 a.m. arrival at Newark. Service from Newark will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with a 6:59 a.m. departure from EWR for a 10:15 a.m. arrival at PBC.”
Volaris currently operates service from Newark Airport to Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) and El Salvador International Airport (SAL).
According to the Port Authority, Newark Airport saw its busiest-ever year for international travel in 2025, welcoming 15.4 million international passengers.
